Building Permits in Cyprus Jump 35% in January–April 2026

Cyprus's Statistical Service (Cystat) recorded a sharp rise in construction activity: 2,915 building permits issued between January and April 2026, up from 2,157 a year earlier, a 35.1% increase.

The housing figures stand out even more. Planned apartments and houses approved for construction jumped 65%, to 7,131 units from 4,321 a year earlier. April alone accounted for 477 residential permits, bringing the year-to-date total to 2,154, up 33.6%. Non-residential permits rose more modestly, up 4.9%, from 243 to 255.

The value figures moved even further: total permit value rose 46.1%, from €1.14 billion to €1.67 billion, and the authorised floor area grew 45.5%, to 1.35 million square metres.

This is a signal for the future rather than today. In Cyprus, years typically pass between a permit and a finished building. But approvals on this scale mean supply on the island should expand noticeably in a few years' time, particularly in the apartment segment.
